Mt. Hakone is an active volcano, having erupted only 3000 years ago. Owakundai is an active volcanic zone around the crater from this eruption.
All the smoke/steam you see are sulfuric vents. It makes for a wonderful smell.
Being high up on the mountain means that it was quite cold and windy. Due to the high winds, the pathway to go deeper was closed today.
But what being up here did also mean was I had another great view of Mt. Fuji.
Despite being halfway up a mountain, I couldn’t escape finding more Evangelion branded products.
